Abstract

We show that for every mixing orthogonal representation <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> π : Z → O ( H R ) \pi : \mathbf {Z} \to \mathcal O(H_{\mathbf {R}}) </inline-formula> , the abelian subalgebra <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> L ( Z ) \mathrm {L}(\mathbf {Z}) </inline-formula> is maximal amenable in the crossed product <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> I I 1 \mathrm {II}_1 </inline-formula> factor <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" alttext="normal upper Gamma left-parenthesis upper H Subscript bold upper R Baseline right-parenthesis right-normal-factor-semidirect-product Subscript pi Baseline bold upper Z"> Γ ( H R ) ⋊ π Z \Gamma (H_{\mathbf {R}}) \rtimes _\pi \mathbf {Z} </inline-formula> associated with the free Bogoljubov action of the representation <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> π \pi </inline-formula> .
