The structure of an intermediate carbon phase, the so-called “cubic graphite,” is determined. Close agreement between the calculated and experimental lattice constants ( A =0.5545 nm), densities (ρ=2.80 g/cm 3 ), and all lines of the Debye powder pattern indicates that cubic graphite has a simple cubic lattice formed by C 24 fullerene molecules copolymerized by the square faces.
