Abnormal Lactation with Cushing's Syndrome—A Case Report¹

Abstract

A 29-yr-old patient with abnormal lactation was studied on several occasions. The onset of abnormal lactation followed a normal pregnancy. During the first hospitalization the sella turcica and various urinary and plasma steroid levels were within normal limits and a diagnosis of Chiari-Frommel syndrome was made. Subsequently, the patient developed headaches and visual disturbances and showed an enlarged sella turcica due to a chromophobe adenoma of the pituitary. At this time urinary steroids and cortisol secretion rate showed marked elevation. This case represents a Chiari-Frommel syndrome which ultimately developed in complex of hyperadrenocorticism, secondary amenorrhea and persistent lactation.
