Abstract

This is the first comprehensive survey of Standard Modern Greek, as it has emerged from the two coexistent varieties of the language - katharevousa and demotic. The book offers a descriptive analysis of the structure of the language and of present-day usage, which is illustrated by examples drawn from a wide cross-section of spoken, written and literary sources.
