Abstract

A semiempirical method for calculating diamagnetic susceptibilities of organo–silicon compounds containing carbon–silicon bonds is reported. Susceptibilities are considered to be contributed by the atoms, bonds, and bond–bond interactions and expressed in terms of parameters. Diamagnetic susceptibilities have been calculated for monomethyl alkyl, dimethyl alkyl, trimethyl alkyl, and tetraalkyl silanes and agree with in 0.75% of experimental values. It can be extended to predict susceptibilities of organic derivatives of metals and metalloids.
