TL;DR

The study presents a method for reconstructing the brightness distributions of compact radio sources using VLBI closure phase and fringe amplitude data. The method infers visibility phase from these measurements to reconstruct the source brightness. Reliable hybrid maps comparable to early synthesis results on extended sources can be produced with networks of four or more telescopes. S. ; Wilkinson, P. N. Abstract A method is described for recovering the brightness distributions of compact radio sources from VLBI observations of closure phase and fringe amplitude. The approach is to deduce the visibility phase from these data. It is shown that reliable 'hybrid' maps of complexity comparable with that of early synthesis results on extended sources can be obtained with networks of four or more existing telescopes.
