Abstract

Approaches to evaluating the problems of hearing-impaired patients are discussed in the context of an open-ended problem questionnaire, handicap scales and personality measures. Some baseline data are presented for the problem questionnaire. A comparison between different handicap scales used in the English language is made. A presentation of the personality scores of a hearing-impaired population is given. The importance of using these three approaches together, rather than in isolation, is emphasised.
