Temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility χ and resistivity in (La 1- x Sr x ) 2 CuO 4 has been examined in a composition range of x ≤0.15. For \(x{\lesssim}0.1\), χ gradually decreases with lowering temperature, accompanied by a broad peak, while for x >0.1 χ monotonically increases with decreasing temperature. Superconducting transition temperature T c is observed to be high in samples with \(x{\lesssim}0.1\), although T c is depressed with a steplike behavior below x ≃0.08.
