The operation appears to be applicable to all types of obstructing prostate. In the 20 consecutive unselected cases operated on by this route to data there has been no death. The postoperative course for patient and nursing staff has been remarkably easy and relatively devoid of anxiety for the surgeon. My present conviction is that retropubic prostatectomy represents a great advance in the relief of prostatic obstruction. References Gautier, 1937 : J. Urol. méd. chir.1937; 44: 55.
