Reversible equilibrium adsorption‐desorption relationships were inadequate for describing the transport of orthophosphate through water‐saturated and water‐unsaturated cores from surface A 1 and subsurface A 2 horizons of Oldsmar fine sand. Using a kinetic model with nonlinear reversible adsorption‐desorption improved descriptions of phosphorus transport through these soils. Phosphorus effluent concentrations were described best by using an irreversible sink for chemical immobilization or precipitation with a nonlinear reversible kinetic adsorption‐desorption equation.
