The analysis of a hailstone

Abstract

Abstract An analysis has been made of the bubble and crystal structure and of the isotopic composition of a hailstone from a severe storm which occurred near Cardiff on 1 July 1968. A trajectory for the stone has been deduced from the isotopic data which is consistent with its crystal and bubble structures. Updraught profiles have been calculated also and are in reasonable agreement with those inferred from the extended parcel theory.
