Formation of highly crystalline guanidinium salts of sulfonated triphenylphosphane derivatives is demonstrated as a general method for obtaining samples suitable for single crystal X-ray structural characterization. The structures of sulfonated phosphane ligands 1 – 5 have been determined. Extensive hydrogen bond networks between guanidinium N-H donors and -SO3 oxygens as acceptors and/or π-π interactions stabilize the structures.
