Turbulent low-Mach-number electrostatic ion shocks are observed when ion reflections ahead of shocks are controlled by new methods. The spatial growth of the turbulence is mapped by a test-wave method and correlated with the distribution of reflected ions. Dis-agreements with computer experiments are explained.
