Automotive technology is becoming increasingly sophisticated, with growing complexity from more interfaces, connections, displays, user demands, and suppliers, creating a pressing need for system updates to maintain quality and functionality. The authors propose a new OTA vehicle update solution aimed at reducing costs, recalls, and improving quality for OEMs while enhancing fleet control. The solution updates vehicle ECUs over the air without requiring a physical connection, enabling remote firmware updates. The paper presents the Fotamotive architecture, process flow, system components, vehicle cloud management, and simulation results.
The technologies in the automotive industry are becoming smarter and more advanced than before. Complexity of vehicle electronics is becoming a greater issue and often caused by more interfaces, more connections, more displays, more user demand features and more suppliers. This means there is a great need to supply system updates to ensure higher quality and improve functionality. This paper introduces a new solution for vehicle updates that will help OEMs to reduce cost, reduce recalls, increase quality, ease vehicle updates and take better control of vehicles fleet in the market. This new solution consists of updating vehicle ECUs over the air without the need of a physical connection to the vehicle. We are presenting Fotamotive architecture, process flow chart, system components, vehicle cloud management, simulation and results.
