Reliable simulation of the breakdown of leading-edge vortices emanating from sharp leading edges of delta wings is demonstrated using an Euler code. A straightforward technique is described that identifies the onset of vortex breakdown within numerical solutions, thereby allowing quantitative comparison with experimental data. Predictions of breakdown progression with angle of attack are shown to be consistent with test data up to CLmax, and indicate that the vortex breakdown process is governed primarily by in viscid factors. Effects of computational grid characteristics and wing camber effects on breakdown prediction are also noted.
