Quartz has been widely used as a standard for the calibration of Debye-Scherrer X-ray powder cameras, and hence for the measurement of crystal lattice constants in terms of Siegbahn's wave-length scale. The quartz standard was first proposed by Bradley and Jay, who assumed the spacing derived from Bergqvist's measurements, and determined the axial ratio, and hence c, by means of the camera designed by Bradley.
