Abstract

Abstract Nonvolatile monomers were grafted to wool by exposure to rf glow discharge under vacuum. The amount of grafting was limited to an average of 2 to 5% weight uptake. With increasing impregnation the amount of graft decreased, and mostly extractable homopolymers formed. Increasing the intensity of the glow discharge above a certain level is also detrimental because at this point the rate of degradation exceeds the rate of polymerization.
