A method used by Talvitie and Brewer for analysing small samples by x-ray diffraction counting techniques is examined. The experimental results are shown to be in agreement with the theoretical prediction that, for specimens which are so thin that only 10 to 20% of the counting rate for an infinitely thick specimen is obtained, the response is a reasonably linear function of the density of the deposition.
