Abstract The volatile constituents obtained from the pentane extract, using simultaneous steam distillation-extraction of the root of Petiveria alliacea L. growing in Misserete (Benin), were examined by a combination of GC and GC/MS techniques. Thirteen components representing 97% of the essential oil were identified. The most abundant compounds were benzaldehyde (48.3%), dibenzyl disulfide (23.3%), dibenzyl trisulfide (9.4%) and cis- and trans-stilbene (8.1%)
