Fracture of the os calcis is one result of trauma that has not increased in frequency with the advent of mechanized industry, an increasing number of automobile accidents or even in war. It has been a common injury since man began to climb trees, to work from heights or even to escape through a second-story window on hearing the footsteps of the approaching husband. Hence the designation, “lovers-heels.”
