Abstract (+)-Methynolide, the aglycon of a macrolide antibiotic, methymycin, was synthesized via its acetylenic analogue, 8,9-didehydromethynolide. The lactonization of the seco-acids was carried out by the newly developed mixed anhydride method using 2,4,6-trichlorobenzoyl chloride.
