Abstract

Detailed annealing studies have been done on quenched zone-refined aluminum. The research was undertaken to determine the migration energy of the divacancy ${{E}_{M}}^{2}$ and the binding energy of the divacancy ${B}_{2}$ in pure aluminum. It was found that ${{E}_{M}}^{2}=0.50\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.04$ eV and ${B}_{2}=0.17\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.05$ eV. Some discussion of the properties of larger vacancy clusters is given.
