SUMMARY Two children, a brother and sister, were admitted to hospital within a few hours of each other with the fulminating neurological picture associated with hypernatraemia. Both developed transient choreo‐athetosis after regaining consciousness but subsequently made a full recovery without sequelae. The biochemical disturbance was probably largely due to excessive salt administration at home.
