Carburization - introductory survey

Abstract

This survey revisits the research in Germany in the seventies and eighties on carburization conducted in a fine cooperation of research institutes and a supplier of high temperature alloys, funded in the programme FEKKS by the BMFT. The kinetics and mechanism of the carburization of high alloy Cr-Ni-steels and the main reasons for failure were elucidated, also ways and means for corrosion protection and avoidance were developed.
