Abstract Treatment of an acid Merrimac fine sandy loam with H 2 SiO 3 significantly decreased the concentration and total uptake of Mn and Al in tissues of greenhouse grown tomatoes ( Lycopersicum esculentum ) but affected neither the uptake nor tissue concentrations of Cu or Zn. Yields of dry matter were not significantly increased by Na 2 CO 3 treatments. Increases in yield of dry matter were more closely associated with decreased concentrations of Zn and Cu and less closely associated with decreased concentrations of Al and Mn.
