SUMMARY Two cases of urinary retention associated with herpes zoster are described. In the first case bladder paresis in the presence of sacral herpes but without herpetic cystitis was confirmed by urodynamic measurements. The diagnosis of herpetic bladder paresis can be sustained even in the absence of visible herpetic involvement of the bladder. The second patient developed transient retention of urine in association with ilio‐inguinal herpes. The possible mechanism is discussed.
