Two cases of enlarged ilio-psoas bursa are presented, together with a review of the relevant literature. In both cases the bursa was entered accidentally while attempting femoral artery or vein puncture and injection of contrast showed its extent. One of the cases is of particular interest in that the bursa was responsible for femoral vein obstruction. Only two previous cases of radiological demonstration of this bursa have been recorded. Radiologists should be aware of this condition so as to prevent needless anxiety if a bursa is accidentally entered during puncture of the femoral artery or vein.
