Abstract

Circular polarization in the scattered light from Saturn has been discovered and measured before and after the opposition of 1971 November. Spectra of the circular polarization at two phases were taken with interference filters. Compared to Jupiter, the values are opposite in sign and the variation with phase angle is unexpectedly complex. The rings show little or no circular polarization.
