Abstract

Relative permittivities, ε, densities, ρ, refractive indices, nD, and ultrasonic velocities, u, were measured for the binary systems of γ-butyrolactone with methanol, ethanol, and 1-octanol at 298.15 K and with 1-butanol at 298.15 K and 303.15 K, over the entire composition range. From the experimental results, the excess volume, VE, and the deviations in relative permittivity, Δε, ultrasonic velocity, Δu, isentropic compressibility, Δks, and molar polarization, ΔPm, were calculated. The above functions show deviations from the additivity law, which depend on the length of the carbon chain of the alcohol.
