Surface relief and the displacive transformation to the lamellar microstructure in TiAl

This letter reports optical microscopy and optical interferometry observations of the surface relief produced by the transformation to the fully-lamellar microstructure in a Ti-45.3 at.% Al-2.1 at.% Cr-2.0 at.% Nb alloy. The observed surface relief provides direct experimental evidence in support of the displacive nature of the transformation.
