Abstract Tetrachloroaluminates, -ferrates and -gallates of formulae A I M III CL 4 with A 1 = Cs, Rb, In, Tl, NH 4 as well as the high temperature forms of the potassium compounds (KM III Cl 4 -III) crystallize with the baryte type structure. LiM III CL 4 , NaM III Cl 4 , and KM III Cl 4 -II (M III = AI, Fe, Ga), isotypic among themselves, belong -dependent on the size of the A + ion -to three different structure types.
