Laboratory measurements and a search for interstellar CO dimer

Abstract

Five laboratory radio-frequency transitions observed for the dimer of carbon monoxide are reported. The species (CO)2 appears to be nonrigid. No emission was detected in a search of 11 interstellar sources at 1.458 GHz. It is estimated that the ratio (CO)2/CO is less than 1% in these sources.
