Abstract

The lateral variability of main geochemical parameters of dispersed organic matter (DOM) in the bottoms sediments of the Ob Bay was studied using materials of areal geological survey. It was found that they correspond to background compositions of estuarine-delta facies of the Western Arctic shelf, being mainly determined by the influx of river run-off and coastal abrasion. The distribution of DOM and its components is controlled by the hydrodynamic regime of the water area and grain-size composition of sediments. The molecular composition of hydrocarbon markers (n-alkanes, cyclanes, and arenes) confirms the dominant role of terrigenous humic material in the formation of DOM of the bottom sediments, while temporal stability of quantitative and qualitative geochemical characteristics indicates the stability of the Ob Bay ecosystem.
