We report the first observation of the emission of coherent light by an electron beam bunched at 1.06 \ensuremath{\mu}m by a Nd-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser focused into an optical klystron. An enhancement of ${10}^{2}$ to ${10}^{3}$ over its spontaneous emission level at 355 nm has been observed in these experiments performed at the ACO storage ring at Orsay.
