Analysis of Temperature Fluctuations in ac Heated Filaments

Abstract

The temperature fluctuation in ac heated wires is studied, and expressions are given for the magnitude and phase of all harmonic components of the temperature. Radial and end effects are treated as perturbations on the solution for the long thin wire. It is shown that corrections to the usual expression for heating power may be required when the temperature coefficient of resistance is large, and that surface fluctuations may differ greatly from those in the interior.
