Abstract

Microscopic epizoic algae were found, forming coloured patches on the surfaces of calcified colonial ascidians (Didemnum spp.) along shores of the Gulf of California. The commonest of these is an apparently undescribed species of Synechocystis.Other algae more rarely associated with these ascidians include pink unicellular and filamentous cyanophytes and diatoms.
