Abstract

Unexploded ordnance (UXO) is a serious engineering consideration in the United States and across the world. In fact, because not all suspect sites have been surveyed, the extent of the problem is unknown. However, the U.S. Department of Defense estimates that 15 million acres at approximately 1500 sites in the United States are UXO contaminated. (These figures do not include contamination in the oceans.)
