Abstract

The paper establishes the presence of a till and an outwash gravel (both containing far-travelled erratics and heavy minerals) along the northern margin of the Scilly Isles. The glacial deposits rest on a Lower Head, raised beach and shore platform, and are overlain by a younger beach and an Upper Head. The sequence is compared with similar deposits in the south of England and of Ireland, and a Gipping age is claimed for the glacial deposits.
