Further observations on the reaction show that vacuum treatment of aluminum decreases the induction time from 70 to about 5 min. This may be a consequence of removing water and perhaps also oxygen from the oxide film. Vacuum treatment has no effect on the long induction time for 2.43 per cent Mg‐Al alloy.
