Abstract The existence of POCl 3 ‐complexes of complex‐forming chlorides (e.g. SnCl 4 , TiCl 4 , SbCl 5 ), combined with the precipitation method in POCl 3 for the preparation of PCl 5 ‐compounds 1 ). strongly creates the impression that there might be an analogy between the H 2 O and the POCl 3 systems. It is known that hydrates of complex‐forming chlorides are decomposed by e.g. CsCl 2CsCl + SnCl 4 · nH 2 O → Cs 2 SnCl 6 + n H 2 O 2 PCl 5 + SnCl 4 · n POCl 3 → (PCl 4 ) 2 SnCl 6 + n POCl 3 In order to get some information about the possibility of this process, the system POCl 3 ‐PCl 5 ‐complex‐forming chloride is investigated by conductometric titration.
