Off-centre displacements in spinels: a neutron diffraction examination of MgCr<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub>

MgCr2O4 has been examined by powder neutron diffraction. There is no evidence for an off-centre displacement of the Cr3+ ions as recently proposed, though displacements up to about 0.02 AA cannot positively be ruled out.
