Abstract

Cylindrical blast waves are produced in an inverse pinch machine operating in the mode where the energy deposition time is short compared to the time required for the wave to traverse the chamber. Advantages of this method over conventional explosive and exploding wire methods are discussed. A simple formula is developed which predicts the shock trajectory over the entire range of strong shocks to the weak shock limit.
