Massive transfusion – evaluation of current clinical practice and outcome in two large teaching hospital trusts in Northern England

Abstract

Massive transfusion occurs rarely but has a high mortality and requires a disproportionate amount of blood products. An increased ratio of fresh frozen plasma to red blood cells was associated with improved outcome.
