Nathan and Oski's Hematology of Infancy and Childhood , regarded as the definitive text in pediatrie hematology, came out with a new edition in 1993. Compared with the previous edition published in 1987, this new edition has been extensively updated to keep up with the fastmoving trends in the field of pediatrie hematology. The text essentially follows the same format seen in the previous edition; however, addenda have been made to several chapters and some new sections have been added as well. The book, encyclopedic in its coverage, is very well organized into a twovolume text. The first volume focuses primarily on abnormalities of the red and white blood cells. The red blood cell abnormalities discussed include disorders of red blood cell production, the immune and nonimmune hemolytic anemias, and the hemoglobinopathies. This volume also contains topics in neonatal hematology and, in particular, a very useful section on the hemostatic system
