Abstract The kinetics of steam‐methane reforming over a supported nickel catalyst have been investigated in a continuous stirred tank reactor, under isothermal conditions between 350 and 450 °C at 1–2 atm. The rate data obtained have been analysed by the Hougen–Watson method. Linear as well as non‐linear least squares analysis combined with other statistical considerations were used to discriminate among forty reaction rate models. The following Hougen–Watson type rate equation has been proposed: The constants in the rate equation have been expressed as functions of temperature.
