Unsupported TiFe, TiRu, and TiCo bonds are found in the stable dinuclear compounds of type 1 (M = Fe, Ru, Co). These compounds were synthesized from the appropriate mononuclear titanium bromide complex and carbonyl metalates. The polydentate ligands on the early transition metal clearly provide the key to successful stabilization of the unsupported metal–metal bond.
