AbstractA method is described for the analysis of three permanent finishes based on formaldehyde. The finish is hydrolysed by 12N sulphuric acid, without heating, and the yield of formaldehyde is assessed colorimetrically by means of the reaction with chromotropic acid. The method is critically examined, and its applications are illustrated by practical results from finishes on viscose rayon and cotton.
