Soft x-ray array results on the ZT-40M reversed-field pinch

Abstract

Spatially resolved soft x-ray measurements on the ZT-40M reversed-field pinch using a surface barrier diode array are reported. In plasma discharges with x-ray sawteeth present, the sawteeth have an m=0, n=0 character. In normal discharges, without large-amplitude sawteeth, a new ly observed internal m=1 oscillation is described. This quasicontinuous m=1 mode may be a manifestation of a saturated magnetohydrodynamic tearing mode.
