A Preliminary Luminosity Clssification of Late-Type Galaxies.

Abstract

A system of luminosity classification for late-type galaxies is described. The classification is based on the strong correlation between absolute luminosity and degree of development of spiral arms. By means of the present system the absolute magnitudes of late-type galaxies may be determined with an accuracy of about 0.5 mag.
