Abstract

These results suggest that genetic factors are involved in cerebral aneurysm formation in the rat. The susceptibility of the internal elastic lamina of extracerebral arteries to spontaneous rupture does not appear to be a determinant genetic trait in the propensity to develop aneurysms in arteries of the circle of Willis. The comparison of these different rat strains may be very useful for studying factors contributing to cerebral aneurysm pathogenesis.
